Years ago, nature gave us a special giftBobcat look, Domestic BreedThere is a big 'flea market' in Texas called First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. It occurs the weekend before the first Monday of each month. One spring Saturday morning I was visiting the market and found what I thought was a very unusual kitten. She had a very short tail, was polydactyl (five toes on all four feet), and had a lot of spots with quite a bit of ruffus coloring. I thought this kitten would make a good household pet kitten to take to the shows when I was showing my Siberians. I named her Canton for the place I got her. About 2 weeks later, I was looking at a magazine that I take and found an article by Diane Fish about Pixie-Bobs. In reading the article, I kept comparing the description of a Pixie-Bob with Canton, the kitten that I got at the flea market. I called Diane and asked if I could send her some pictures of Canton to see if she saw what I thought I saw. SHE DID! I went back to the flea market the next month and asked to person I got the kitten from if he knew where it came from. He said a friend of his had an old mother cat that just went out in the woods and came back pregnant. There were two kittens as a result. I did not take the other one as it was a male when I got mine because I did not want another male cat in my house. I have gone back to the flea market each month for the last 3 years looking for another kitten like Canton. I have found a couple that have some of the traits, but none with as many as Canton. Canton and the 3 other cats from the flea market are the beginning of my foundation stock. I will be breeding these to registered Pixie-bobs to bring my line forward - keeping only those that look the most like a bobcat. Legend has it that the Pixie-Bob is a cross between a domestic cat and a bobcat, but when you do DNA testing, no wild blood shows up in the cats so this cannot be proven. Because of this, Pixie-bobs are legal to own in almost all of the 50 states. If this were not the case many states would outlaw the possession of them. One of our favorite males is Atoka. If you'd like to see his lineage, be our guest. He has most recently been featured in the book Cat's Catalog 2002. Here's Atoka's most current picture And these are when he was about 4 months old 03T and SBT may compete in championship class in TICA (The International Cat Association). We are no longer actively breeding Pixie Bobs. Please contact us and we will be happy to help you locate another excellent breeder. There aren't very many other breeders of Pixie Bobs, however here's our ad in Cats USA magazine that shows some of the Southern-Breed PixieBobs.
